BERCHEM STATION - HEYSEL

Passenger numbers along this route vary considerably depending on the route section; they are very high between Hunderenveld and Beekkant, and lower between Hunderenveld and Heysel. The very busy section between Hunderenveld and Beekkant fully justifies the use of high-capacity buses and would be used by another route. Moreover, in anticipation of the planned number 9 tram route, it will be necessary to optimise the interchanges and complementarity of the number 84 service with the new tram service. 
Finally, services to Neder-Over-Heembeek need to be improved, to keep pace with the ongoing process of urbanisation and the increasing population density in this area.

New route

The new number 84 route will be extended from Heysel to Val Maria (Neder-over-Heembeek) at one end whilst at the other end it will no longer operate between Beekkant and Berchem Station. The Beekkant section of the route will now be covered by the number 87 bus with higher capacity buses now running on this route.
There will be a new route between the Berchem Station and Heysel stops, going via Avenue Charles Quint and the Brugmann hospital site. 

  • Direct connection with lines 2 and 6 to Simonis;
  • New direct connections between Berchem-Sainte-Agathe, Ganshoren, Jette, Heysel and Neder-Over-Heembeek;
  • A new service to the Plateau du Heysel from the Avenue de Versailles area;
  • A new connection running from the Reniers/Toussaint districts;
  • Improved service to Avenue Charles Quint;
  • After consultation, the service to the Children’s University Hospital (HUDERF) has been improved.
