Services to Neder-Over-Heembeek need to be improved, to keep pace with the ongoing process of urbanisation and the increasing population density in this area. Moreover, improved connections between Neder-Over-Heembeek, the north of Schaerbeek (the town hall in Place Colignon and Place Verboeckhoven) and the south of Schaerbeek (Place Dailly, the European Quarter) would respond to currently unfulfilled needs.

New route

The new number 56 route provides a new service, departing from the industrial estates (the future Brussels X - Bpost mail sorting office) continuing through Neder-over-Heembeek, supplementing and replacing the 47 bus, before continuing towards the European Quarter via Schaerbeek (Place Verboeckhoven, Place Colignon, Avenue Paul Deschanel and Place Dailly).

  • A better service to Neder-Over-Heembeek (Avenue des Croix de Guerre, Val Maria and the Hôpital Militaire [Military Hospital]);
  • New connection to the Dockx Bruxsel shopping mall;
  • New connection to Schaerbeek town hall;
  • Connections with the Bruxelles-Schuman overground and underground rail services.
